Having body odour can be very embarrassing.
Then again, that’s why we have deodorants, right?
But it seems a Chinese woman’s body odour was so pungent, she ended up having to compensate a bridal shop for dresses she tried on.
According to an online post by the woman, she and her fiancé plan to get married next year and they went shopping for wedding gowns at a well-known bridal shop in the city.
Highlighting that the shop assistants were very polite, recommending her different styles, the woman ended up choosing two dresses to try on.
After trying them on, the woman felt they weren’t suitable and changed out of her clothes, and got ready to leave.
However, she was stopped by one of the assistants and the boss who claimed that the dresses she tried on were ruined because of her body odour.
They then asked the woman for compensation for one of the dresses and even tried to get her to buy the other one.
An argument ensued between the two parties, with the woman saying she was being scammed because of her body odour.
The police was also called in to settle the dispute.
In the end, the woman paid the shop 2,000 yuan (S$367).
Isn’t that a steal for two ruined gowns?
One might think the woman would find empathy and justice after posting her experience online though quite the opposite happened.
Netizens backed the bridal shop with many saying the dresses couldn’t be rented or sold because of her.
Some even chastised the woman for having body odour, with one commenting: “If you have body odour, how can you not be aware of it?”
Another netizen who claims to own a bridal shop also came out to explain how the smell of body odour cannot be washed off and that asking for compensation was reasonable.
“I suggest you take a shower before trying on wedding dresses,” advised the comment
Taken aback by the online vitriol, the woman admitted that she didn’t know her condition was so serious and has said she will seek treatment at a hospital.
“I will not try on a wedding dress until I recover,” she promised.
Also, isn’t it odd that none of her friends or her fiancé highlighted her condition to her?
